NEW WORKS FOR THE ART GALLERY
The committee set up to consider the question of an appeal to tho public for tho purchase "of some of the art works now on exhibition in 'aid of the blind French soldiers met at the gallery on' Tuesday night, and inspected the pictures ard other works. It was decided that the most suitable works for the Public Gallery would be:—(1) "The Bather" (sculpture), by L. Lane, £100; (2) "British" Offensive," by L. Jonas, £120; (3) "Somewhere in tho Somme," by Eaemaeker, £200; (4) "In Champagne: The Best," by Raemaeker, £200; (5) "The Two Allies," by Baemaeker, £250. 'Hie committee is appealing to'public-spirited citizens to benofifS the blind soldiers and our Public Art Galjery as , well by J purchasing and presorting any one of the'foregoing works, and subscriptions, both large and small, will he gratefully received by any member of the committee towards the acquisition of as many of the works as possible. Contributions may alssu be handed in to the custodian of the Art Gallery, AVhitmore 'Street. The following are tho committee:— Messrs. A. Atkins, H. ¥.• von Haast, Charles Wilson, J. Ellis, A. F. Nicoll J. M'DonaJd, and H. M. Gore. The beautiful piece of Italian sculpture first mentioned on the above list, entitled "Tho Bather," has already been purchased and presented l to'the Public Gallery by Jlr. T. Shailer Weston.
