A Ministerial Evening for the Hed Cross. A still further effort for the benelit of the Thorndon day at the Red Cross Siiop, in the shape of sn craning given by Mrs. G. Eussell (wife of the Hon. G. \\\ Russell), took place at the Miuistorial residence in Molesworth Street yesterday. H.er Excelluncy the Countess of Liverpool iva's .among tho many guests who were pre*ent, and a very pleasant entertainment in the form ot bridge and 1 music was provided. Tho folding doors between the drawiugrooui and tile diningroom had been thrown baekj and tho two rooms converted into mi informal concert cbnmber with spring flowers and most.beautiful flowering pot plants. Bridge was played in tiio morningroom, which was also arranged with flowers. Contributing to the mnsbal programme wero Miss Hazel Fuller, I who saiiK "Request" and Alfred Hill's well-known Maori song, "Waiata Poi"; I Mr. Albert Russell, who contributed several comic items- Mr. O'Connor and Miss Russell, who both contributed songs,.-and .Sir. Foster, who played pianoforte solos. Supper, the arrangements for which were carried out by Messrs. Lewis, Long, and Leicester; was served in. an adjoining room. Mrs. Russell was assisted in receiving her guests by the Hon.' G. W. Russell, and among those who wero present were: Sir Robert and Lady Stout, Sirs. ;aid Miss Massey, the Hon. J. Hanan and Mrs. Hanan, Dr. Ada i'atersoii, Sir. and Sirs. La-.Trobe, Slias Halse, Major and Mrs. Corrigan, Mrs. and Miss Jones, Mrs. and Miss AVylie, Captain Brown, Captain Brien, Lieutenant Garland, the Misses Montgomery, Mrs. rud Miss Corliss, Mr. Helmore, Mr. Uuxton, Miss Fulton, Miss Turner, Miss Hawkins, Slius Gow, I)r and Mrs. Robertson, and Mrs. tS. Harcourt, Sydney Street Soldiers' Club, The Soldiers' Club Committee held its monthly meeting yesterday, Mrs. Massey presiding. There were also present Lady Stout, Mesdames Nathan, Joseph Joseph, Kirkcaldie, Moorhouse, Samuel, Pearson, Halt, Young, C. Earle, and Sliss Rotheuborg. Apologies wore received from Lady Gibbes, Mesdames Chatfield, ShirtclilFe, Coleridge, Wilford, lilundcll, and Jacob Joseph. Correspondence was read from tbo Prime Minister's office, Melbourne, relating to the reception of Australian troops passing through Wellington. Tho Houso Committee reported a .considerable increase during the Inst month in tho attendance at the club, _ several extra dances being given, which had been filled to overflowing on every occasion. Accounts amounting to £81 16s. 6d. were passed for payment.
