Farley was ordained to tho itoman Catholic priesthood in 1870; from 1872 to 1884 he vas secretary to the late Archbishop M'Gloskey; private chamberlain to the Into Pope Leo XIII, with tho title, of Mousignore, 1881; Vicar-General of New York, 1891; domestic prelate to Pope Leo XIII, 1892; Titular Bishop of Georgina. 1595: fourth Archbishop of Now York, 1902; elevated to the Cardinalate, 1911.]
