A HOME WANTED
FOR ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION. k deputation, consisting of the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, M.L.C., Mr. George Troup, Mrs. Waters, and Misses Itobieson and Holyer, representing the St. John Ambulance Association, waited on the Finance Committee of the City Council- yesterday afternoon, with a \equest that the council should assist tho association to a home of its own. At present the association conducted its work in several place's, not very conveniently situated one to the other, and tliey urgently desired to establish headquarters of their own, in which direction they asked the council to pro-vide-a site for a building. The city corporation, had such sites, and it was represented that the organisation, which was doiiig such valuable work, not only in connection with the war, but in Wellington (through its nursing division) might be allowed the use of a site at a peppercorn rental, in order that the work could be more economi- ■ eally .and efficiently performed. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), while stating that he had to speak conservatively until ho knew the mind of the council, promised the deputation a very (full consideration of -their request.
