Tho adage, horses for courses, was well illustrated at Ambcrley last week, when Derby Day won tho Hack Handicap. Four yoars'ago, at the Ambcrley Stceplcchaso Club's meeting, ho won the Farmers' Hack Hace and the Waipara Handicap, while a year later he was successful in the Kownj Handicap, and also in the Waipara Handicap. Those were his only appearances at Ambcrley prior to last week, when he scored his fifth success in as many starts. Kennanuhair, who Is sharing the ponours of favouritism for the Melbourne Cup with Desert Gold, recently won the Uosn. hill Handicap by the decisive margin of four lengths in 2min. 7sec, when carrying 9st.
