DEATH OF MR. J. L. HENRYS

RESULT OF MOTOR ACCIDENT. A Press Association message received from Masterton on Saturday morning stated that Mr. John Lewis Henrys (son of Mr. J. E. Henrys, the wellknown handicapper), who was the victim of a motor-car accident near EketaImra on Friday, died late on Friday night in the Masterton Hospital. Mr. C' Lamb, who was his companion at the time of the accident, is also in that hospital, suffering from a broken arm. The car, which was being driven by Mr. Henrys, fell over an embankment, a distance of 40 feet. The victim of the fatality, Mr. Jack L. Henrys, is well known m AVellington, and throughout the district. He Was the eldest son of Mi\ Joseph E'. Henrys, the handicapper, who with Mrs. Henrys, will have a great many sincere sympathisers in their bereavomeivt. The deceased was educated at St. Patrick's College, Wellington, and at St. Joseph's College, Hunter's Hill, Sydney. After leaving college he joined tbo office staff of the Union Steam Ship Company,- in AVellington, but during later years he has taken up Tiis father's calling, and has acted as handicapper for several of the provincial racing clubs. The late Mr. Henrys, who was 31 years of age, volunteered for service at tho outbreak of war, but did not pass the medical test. He leaves a widow and one child, who are at present spending a holiday with relatives in Queensland. A Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Basilica yesterday afternoon in the presence of a largo assemblage (including the boarders of St. Patrick's College). At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. A "large and representative gather ing, including the Hon. AY. D. S. Mac Donald and deceased's late employees, attended the funeral in AVellington yesterday afternoon. Many of the" racing clubs throughout New 'Zealand sent wreaths and messages of sympathy. Tho Rev. Father Smyth, assisted by the Rev.- Father Gilbert, rector of St. Patrick's College, and the Rev. Father Ouham, conducted the funeral obsequies.
