PICTURES BY DATTILO-RUBBO
FOR IT AMAN BED CROSS. The two pictures presented by A. Dattilo-Rubbo, a Sydney artist, to be raffled in aid of the Italian Red Cross appeal in Wellington, are now displayed in the D.I.C. window in Panama Street, and are- attracting attention from.many people. Ono is called "Where Daddy Fell." It shows a brightly lighted interior, and near a window a table, on which an old man is finding on a map of Flanders the place whore his son was killed in action. The son's widow is turning away in grief, while his son sits in sombre- silence on tho table and watches the old man's hands. The boy's face is la trifto hard, with very set jaws, but these are lads of the typo to bo found in Sydney. The lighting of the work saves it from the note of too painful tragedy which it would otherwise strike. Tho other work is called "The Breadwinner." A lad, a more boy in fact, yet a. jockey to judge by tho setting, is lying in bed. Ho lies on his back, with his profile shown with classic clearness against tho brown wall. 'His liead is in bandages, and bis arm is in splints. Obviously disater has come to him. Tlio picture of a racehorse on the wall suggests, and tho cap dimly scon in tho .shadows confirms, tlio story of n> track accident. Seated on tho odgo of tho bed in deep thought is the old mother, a wonderfully-drawn figure, and the lad's dog sleeps on tho floor by the bed. Both pictures show Mr. DiittiloKubbo in tho light of an accomplished artist.
