Sir,—On behalf of the E«d Cross sale in London the other day, the. King made a large contribution of , wine for sale from the Royal cellars, Buckingham Palace, and the London "Limes sa ys—"The auctioneer announced amidst loud cheers that the gift of wiiio sent to tho aalo by the King had realises! a total atim of £7761, andjihis was .tho second contribution of His Most (Jrncicu:-:'Majesty of wine for the support of the" Red Cross." I merely mention this matter for the purpose ot showing that King George, who renounced his total abstinenco pledge by order of his medical advisers nt about Christmas, 1916, is able to spare £15,000 worth of Insurious liquors for the promotion of the good work being done hv the Red -Cross, and I would suagest that his is an example that might well bo followed by the nossessors of such commodities in New Zea-
