COLLISION IN AUCKLAND HARBOUR
FINDING OF COURT OF INQUIRY. By TeleEraph--?rcss Association. Auckland, September 12. The finding of the Court of Inquiry into tho collision between tho Richardson, steamer Mako and the Leylnnd O'Brien scow Seagull, in the harbour on July 12, was that tho master and tho first officer of tho Mfiko were negligent in not seeing tho scow's, lights sooner, and they were ordered to pay the costs of tho inquiry. As the Court considered that the defence that the scow's lights were obscured by a smoke screen was not a bona-fide defence, the company, which supported tho defence, was also ordered to pay costs. In view olf the certificated officers' certificates not being suspended, the question as. to the apportionment of the costs was deferred.
