HUTT SPRING SHOW

DAFFODILS AND JONQUILS MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY OF BLOOMS The Hutt Valley Horticultural Society's spring show was opened in the Drill Hall, Lower Hutt, yestwday afternoon in ideal spring weather. 'I he display of blooms, especially daffodils, was extremely lino, notwithstanding the boisterous "wcat.hrr of last avcok. Jlr. Thomas Waugli had an exceptionally good exhibit of about sixty varieties of narcissi. Jlr. 11. Gibson, of hi-t-ham, secured the, principal honours. Ho carried off tho liarr Trophy and tho Gibson Challenge Hose Bowl tor daffodils, and also showed the. champion "trumpet" in tho sbow and the champion non-trumpet. There was also a good showing of pot plants, tho principal exhibitor being Mr. 11. J. P° D J R > who was awarded a silver medal lor Ins display. ' The dccorative tables, too, were extremely artistic. One end of the hall was enclosed by a- neat railing, and hero afternoon tea was served while the Trentham Band discoursed sweet music. ' His Excellency the Governor-General (Lord Liverpool) opened the sho\v at p.m. He congratulated the district on the fine display of spring flowers, and thanked the people for what they had done for tho soldiers. Tho the show arc to go to the AVounaed Soldiers' Fund. ' There was a remarkably good attendance of tho there being many visitors H'om "ellington present.
