POVERTY BAY BEAT CANTERBURY. The New Zealand ladies' hockey tournament \yus concluded at Karon Bark yesterday, when Poverty Bay and Canterbury met. The victory went to Poverty Bay, the holders of the trophy. The Bay toam have vanquished nil opposition for several years, and yesterday's repetition of their past victories conies as a high tribute to tho good standard of ladies' hockey in the Gisborue district. The game was not by any means onesided, but Poverty Bay had a good deal the better of it, and it -,vas quite fitting that they should win. However, tho unlucky team in the tournament is Manawatu, who heat Poverty Bay on Saturday,'. outclassed Canterbury on Monday, and yet lost tho competition. The first spell was fairly evenly contested, but Poverty Bay all through showed signs of superiority. Tho game was very fast and moved freely from one end of the field to tho other.'
