A GOOD WAR RECORD

SAD LOT OF THE PARENTS. A most pathetic case recently submitted te the War Relief Associationfor consideration concerned an elderly woman and her husband' (siuco deceased), who was, when the application was made, too aihicted with Heart disease to do any worJf. There were eleven children in tho family, and in the course of investigations made by the secretary (Mr. A. 0. Leach), who, with his fellow oiheers, spares .no pains to keep his executive well iniornied as to every detail possiblo to obtain in the cases' placed before them, it was discovered that tho family is one with quite a remarkable war record; Of tho eight sons the following is their record:—One (married, with family), residing in the Wairarapa; one (widower), serving in France; one (married), in France; one (married two years), rejected by Medical Board three times; two returned soldiers, both since married; one (just of age), in camp; and ono, aged eighteen years. In addition to this record, the husband of tho eldest daughter has been killed m France. From all sources tho income of tjio old couple was only £1 13s. 6d., of which 225. 6d. a week was being paid in rent (parents and four youngest children). Other than the 255. earned by the boy and Bs. 6d. paid for a room by the widowed daughter, nothing was coming in from any of the other members of their family, all of whom have their bauds full. The association agreed to pay arrears of rent to the amount of £25 175.-6 d., conditional on the landlord renovating the houso, which he agreed to do. Whilst the case was still under consideration the head of the family died, which enabled the widow to apply for the civil widow's pension in respect of the three youngest children (if eligible by domicile).
