BLIND FRENCH SOLDIERS
It will come as a shock to many to learn that the number of French "soldiers blinded during the prese.it war is now over 55,000. In order to assist in the movement for providing 'for these unfortunate men a. unique mission has reached Wellington, in the course of a lour oi tho world, lis object is to show an interesting collection oi' paintings of war subjects by some of tho best artists of Allied countries. Tlio two' gentlemen in charge, Messrs. Sogers and Blagn/,zi, whose mission is endorsed by 31. Jules Cambon and other eminent Frc-nelimen, were welcomed at a well-attended meeting presided over by _ His Worship the Mayor, held yesterday afternoon, and a strong executive committee was formed to further the object they have in view. Bv the courtesy of the ' New Zealand Academy, the Art' Gallery has been cleared to accommodate tho collection, some 500 works ill all, which it is hoped will all bo hung and in readiness for the first public inspection by Saturday next. Further particulars as arrangements will |ie duly announced.
