SCHOOL COMMITTEES ASSOCIATION
a— A meeting of tho School Committees' • Association was held last night, thirty members being present. The representatives of Pctonc \\est School attended for the first time, aud were welcomed by the chairman, who also extended congratulations to Mr. T. Forsyth on> his election 1o the chairmanship of the Education Board Considerable discussion took place on the present method of stafling schools, and the following motion was adopted: "That the association take steps to bring under the notice of the education authorities the unsatisfactory state of affairs resulting from the present method of staffing schools, and urges reforms in the regulations governing the question." The association had before it the question of holding a Dominion Conference of School Committees'. Associations during the coming session of Parliament, and it was agreed to leave the matter in the hands of the executive to arrange. ' Regulations governing the entrance of children for junior national scholarship examination were adversely criticised. Great dissatisfaction was expressed at the cutting-down of the number of candidates, and the following resolution was adopted:—"That the. association protest against'the regulation of the Department dealing with the number of candidates permitted to sit for the National Scholarships, and that the Department be requested to authorise the cancellation of this regulation, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded, to the Minister of Education."
