9 NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. The. New Zealand amateur billiard championship, which this year is being held in Wellington, under the auspices of the Federal Club, commenced yesterday afternoon at Messrs. Alcoc'k and Co.'s showrooms. The first game ivas between Messrs. Tucker and '?ohen, of Wellington, and was won by the former, who from the beginning led his opponent and reached' his total well ahead. Tucker's best breaks were 35, 32, 30, 29, 25, 22, 22, and 20. In the evening Hamilton and Dunlop tested I one another's ability, the contest proving very even lip to halfway, after which Hamilton, playing a very free cue, drew steadily ahead and won by a comfortable margin. The best breaks were: Hamilton, 30. 30, 32. 27, 20,,>23, 23, 21, and 20. Dunlop, 32, % 23. This afternoon Hamilton and Tucker ( meet, and this evening ex-champion Siedeborg, of Duncdin, plays Goodwin, of Wellington, the finals, 2000 up, being played on Wednesday, ..Thursday; ] and Friday nights. ] ■ 1 .
