STAR BOATING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING,

The annual meeting of the members of the Star Boating Club was held last evening. The captain of the club" (Mr. A. D. Bayfield) presided, and there was an excellent attendance of members, who'were mostly lads under the military age. Sir Francis Bell, the president of. the club, wrote apologising for his absence, and complimenting the club on the excellent report and balance-sheet to be presented. The chairman,, in moving the ador* tion of the report and balance-sheet, said that both'were extremely satisfactory. It was particularly so to the old members, who were gratified with the number of new members, who. appeared to be of good stamp. The"plant, he though, would havo to receive somo attention later, and efforts would be made to avoid purchasing new boats. Tho roll of honour was steadily growing, and the club had in view the erection of some kind of memorial to those who bad given their lives for the country. The chairman referred feeV'igly to the late Mr. A. S. Biss, whose services to the club were inestimable, and the club had lost a very good friend. Referring to the finances of the club) he pointed out that there was a credit balance of £23, and since the .preparation of the balance-sheet subscriptions had come in and there was now £44 in the bank. This excellent result was due to the untiring zeal shown by the treasurer, Mr. Galyin, and.also by the secretary, Mr. Mitchell. Mr. G. P. Johnston was elected life active member of. the club, and Messrs. R. Pownall. C. Maudsley, A. H. Johnstone, 0. H. Webb, Bowen, ana T. M.
