LEAVE FROM THE FRONT

FOR LONG-SERVICE MEN

BUSINESS REASONS CONSIDERED

The New Zealand authorities have at length been able to arrange to give a period of-New Zealand . leave-to the Main Body men and other long-serywe men with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. :. ".■.-■. , s . Sir James Allen, making a statement on .this subject- yesterday, said: ,: We have authorised the return to New Zealand of 50 men per month on duty furlough. This furlough is to be. givon in turn to all the men -who have served three years in the war, and special, leave is tb.be given to men who wish to return, on urgent, business. There will be difficulties in the carrying out of the scheme. Much depends on shipping . facilities available.! We must pring'back our sick and -wounded men in order, .to relieve the hospitals at Homo. The selection of the men to get leave will be niado in every case at iho front. Even, in 1 tlie' case of the men who are required back in New Zealand for business i-easons this will apply, hut tho recommendation in every case will have to come from this end, the reason being that we here are in the' best position, to make inquiries as to whether there are good reasons for the return of a particular man." • It is anticipated-that every mail on his return will get leave for a month on .pay, with the usual three weeks' railway travelling privileges. Every man given this leave will have to return to the front again at the expiry of his leave with such draft as may be .arranged. ■ •■■•'•.:. -. .
