SOLDIERS' BUSINESSES
THE SCHEME OF PROTECTION. Under the regulations gazetted on August 27,1918, tho National Efficiency Board has had thrown upon it tho onerous duty of determining how far new businesses may be established in tho Dominion. Attention is drawn to this provision that any person wishing to start in a new businose must apply in writing to the Distriot Commissioner or to th& chairman, setting out tho particulars of the proposed now business. The object to be gained by any restriction is to enable protection to be afforded to the business of any man who may he called up as a soldier. Where the new businoss does not affect any existing businesses owned by soldiers tho license will probably be granted as a matter of course, but where the new business would clash with the protected business of a soldier it is nrobable that the license would contain such conditions as may be determined upon to ensure that the person startim; the new business would not profit by the absence of the soldier on military service.
