A STRIKING' CASE.' At the Military Service Board yesterday William Thomas .Strand, farmer, Lower Ilutt, applied for leave till the New Year. He said tliat ho was milking about 240 cows, Ho employed ton women, and his. wife, who had a grip of the business, would carry on in his absence. Ho was working five farms in the Hutt Valley. In addition to the cows, they carried 2500 sheop. Last year he grow one hundred tons of vegetables. "The chairman; said that the board was often told that women would not do farm work. The appellant said that women would d> farm work if they were properly treated. Lehve till January 8 was granted.
