St. Thomas's Bazaar. Tho annual ba?aar of St. Thomas's Church, Newtown, was opened in UlO church hall yesterday afternoon by Eer Excellency the Countess of Liverpool. Outsido tlie building Boy Scouts formed ii guard oE honour, and as Lady Liver-' pool entered tho ball, where she was recoived by the Itov. W. Fancourt and Mrs. Fancourt, she passed through another guard of young girls dressed in white and holding up flower-wreathed hoops to form an archway. In welcoming Her Excellency Mr. Fancourt spoke of the continued interest taken by Lady Liverpool in the welfaro of St. Thomas's Church, as instanced, by the different occasions upon which she had opened their annual bazaar Mr. Fancourt said, how greatly that interest was appreciated. The fact that the bazaar was on this occasion not for the benefit of church buildihg funds or church debts, but for the improvement of the grounds surrounding the churcji, 'was emphasised, and Mr. Fancourt outlined what it was proposed to do in -this direotion. Her Excellency, !who was presented by Mr. Fancourt's small daughter with a bouquet of freesifjs and maidenhair fern fastened with lavendercoloured ribbon, congratulated the people of the parislfupon their efforts, and declared, the bazaar open. She. afterwards made a round of the stalls, which made an 'excellent display of fancy needlework, sweets, etc, fn charge were the following stallholders:—Plain stall,-" Mesdames Wood, Webb, Kilfoy, Talbot, Knowles, witli Sewing , Guild; fancy stall, Miss Allen assisted by Mrs. E. W. Butler, Miss Ward, and ..Miss Barnett-Smith; toy, stall,. Mesdames French, Tinney, Miss Rollins; produce stall, the Vestry; sweet stall, Mesdames Laurence, Tindall, tho- Misses Talbot, Naismith, Cooper, Rollins; cake stall,. Mesdames Cooper, Bindley, Rollins; flower stall, Mrs. Croll, Misses Young, Wade, .and D. Oroll ;• afternoon tea stall, Mrs. Astridge, Miss Lobb, with St. Agnes's Guild; entertainments, Mrs. Pudnev, Miss Carwell Cooke ; competitions, Mt. Cooper: Punch and Judy, Masters R.i Sanderson and S. Cooper; shooting gallery, Mr. Talbot and Mr. A. Bell; secretary, Mr. J. llarmer. '
Trenoh Comforts Appeal. .To-day the Countess of Liverpool Fund G'oinmitteo will hold i> stroet? sale of oakes, flowers, sweets, etc., for tho benefit of tho Trench Comfortß. Fund for 6oldiere. Most beautiful flowers have been received from all over the country! some coming from as far south; as ;Inveroargill, and tho people of Wellington will be given the opportunity, of heluping a cause, that needs' no pleading, since it is to ease tho hardships'of our Now Zealand soldiers at the front. Tlio monthly parcels, with their gifts of socks an(l comforts, aro very greatly appreciated by the soldiers, as their many letters have testified, and'it is to raise funds, for keeping on this work that-today's appeal is being made. The Maoris are also' helping on this work, and aro having a stall in Boulcott Street, where Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool will assist by selling during part of tho day. '
Women and the 1 Military Medal. The King has approved tho award of the Military Medal to tho following women:— Unit-Administrator Mrs. Margaret Annabella Campbell Gibson, Q.M.A.A. Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an oncmy airraid whon in charge of a Q.M.A.A.C. camp which was completely demolished" by enemy bombs, ono of which fell within a fow feet of the trench in which tho women were sheltering. During tho raid Unit-Administrator Gibson showed a splendid example.' Her courage and energy sustained tho women under most trying circumstances, and undoubtedly prevented serious loss of life.
.Miss Sarah Bonnell, Miss -EvelynJ Gordon-Brown, Mies Aileen Maude Faulkner, Miss Evelyn Faulder, Miss Nellie Dewhurst, V.A.D., for gallantry and conspicuous devotion. to duty when an ammunition dump had been sot on fire by enemy bombs and the only available ambulance for the removal of wounded , had been destroyed. Tliese ladies subsequently arrived witli throe ambulances, and, .despite the danger arising from various explosions. succeeded in removing all the wounded. Their conduct throughout was splendid. \ Four of the last-named women belong to the First Aifi Nursinfe TcoI manry. Miss Dewhnrst is attached,l?.A.N.Y.. ■■

Last Tuesday the Wadestown W.?S T ;R. Iteld their monthly calco day at the, Bed Cross .Shop, and handed in £12. This was a .most satisfactory sum, and tho continued help from the Wadestown residents is very greatly appreciated by the Shop Committee. In 6pite of the big Red Cross Day given a fortnight ago, a. full supply of cakes was sent in on Tuesday. The Misses Cooper, Moss, and Miles Jnjd delightful spring- flowers for sale, and as usual helped the fund very considerably. Owing to tho Lady Liverpool trench comforts appeal 'there will be no produco sale at; tho shop, but tho flower stall will,'as usual, be open, so that regular weekly customers,may have their orders fulfilled. Noxt Tuesday there will le home-made cakes for sale.
Mrs. W. G. Sherratt, the Mayoress of Gisborno. will be invested with the Ordor of the British Empire (Fifth Class) by the Governor-General,at "Wellington jioxt Tuesday.,
