LADIES' HOCKEY

THE TOURNEY CONTINUED WELLINGTON AGAIN BEATEN The ladies' hockey tourney was continued at Karon Park yesterday. The weather was delightful, and a fair crowd witnessed the play. Wellington again suffered two reverses, tlie A team being beaton by Poverty Bay and the B team, by Manawatu. Wellington, of course, can now bo regarded as "right out of it." POVERTY' BAY AND WELLINGTON A. The Poverty Bay-Wellington A match attracted most attention. The teams wore fairly evenly matclied, and there was little between them at the finish. The play was decidedly poor, and the form makes Poverty Bay out to be anj tiling but fiist-class. Still, tboy may improve during the tournament. The only score of tho'match was vacured in the first spell, and it went to Poverty Bay. The scorer was Miss R. Malcolm. Wellington were unfortunate in this spell, .and with a little ■luck might have scored on more than one occasion. The second spell was very keenly contesMd. Poverty Bay attacked for long stretches, but could not score. Time and again they got tlu- ball into the Wellington circle, but poor shooting saw all their efforts go for nothing. Well on in the spell Wellington got out of thoir difficulties, and attacked repeatedly, but they were unable to make good use of opportunities presented to them. The name devolopod into one .of very solid plugging—much effort, and little result, [n the last few minutes Poverty Bay made the pace very merry., but the whistle went without any alteration in the score.

' Poverty Say 1 Wellington A ; 0 MANAWATU AND WELLINGTON B. Manawatu were much too clever for Wellington B. In the first spell Manawatu. scored three goals to Wellington's nil, and in the second half ut the game the visitors added five more goals,, while Wellington scored only one. The Manawatu scorers were: Misses Whallcy (2), Green (3), Richard (2V Hodder'(l). Miss Gilfodder scored Wellington's only goal.
