ASSOCIATION
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. A' meeting of the council of the New Zealand Football Association was* held last evening, Mr. P. J. Courtney presiding, and Messrs. H. J. Buck, F. O'Connell, H. L. Godber, and B. h. Salmon (hon. secretary) being also present. The Wellington Football Association advised that the following matches had been arranged;— Fifth grade representative match v. Canterbury, in Christchurch, September 7; third division match v. Canterbury, in Wellington, September 21; and, Y.M.C.A. v. Martinborough School. Permission to play these matches was approved. From three names submitted for the position of referee for tho Wellington Brown Shield match, to bo played on Saturday, tho sub-committee reported that thoy. had appointed Mr ; J. 'Black to take charge of the game, and their action was confirmed. , The .Otago Football Association advised by telegram that they approved of Soptembcr 21 as the date for. their Brown Shield game.- <■ -' : This date .was approved by-the council, and the appointment of'a referee was referred to the' New Zealand Referees' Association.
Correspondence was rcccivcd from the Auckland Football Association asking for particulars regarding a challenge, for the Brown .Shield, and inquiring if a challenge would now be received. The secretary pointed out that they had had plenty of time in which to challenge. After discussion it was decided that the rules prohibiting any challenge beins; received after August 1 must be. adhered to. , It was decided to remit the subscriptions, of all affiliated associations for the present season. The New Zealand R'-efarnes' Association wrote stating that it was proposed to issue a circular containing the latest interpretations of the laws of the game and official decisions as issued by the Football Association, London. It was pointed out thjb there was very little uniformity in the control of the games, and that a considerable amount of good would be done. , : The issue of such-circular was approved, and it was decided to defray the cost of printing them. The chairman made appreciative mention of Sir. Godber's work'as acting secretary during the socretaryis absence in camp. WELLINGTON COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of tile Wellington Football Association -wits 'held last evening, Mr. A. E. Wells presiding, 'llio following clubs have won _ the championships of 191.8:—First division, I'orirua; third division, Institute; fourth division A, Institute; fourth division 13, South Wellington; fifth division A, Porirua; fifth division B, Johnsonville: sixth division A. Marist T; sixth division C, Marist N (.15). Institute v. St. Paul's were granted a. ground at Newtown Park on Saturday next. The final of the schools' championship, Marist N v. Marist T, will be played at Anderson Park nn Friday next at 3.15. Referee, Mr. E. Anderson. , Messrs. Meadows and Co. sent a donation of £1 ls^ towards the funds of the ass'jcialioi:.*^ The third division representatives were chosen as follows: —A team: Tarrant, goal: Fitzgerald, Bell, backs; M'Arthur, Pearson, Lewis, half-backs; .T.
