_ The fact that total prohibition of tho liquor traffic tends to increase production and makes for general efficiency has been well illustrated by tho two neighbouring American States of Missouri and Kansas. The former has twice the population of tho latter and has all tho natural advantages of market facilities, mineral doposits. forests, and agricultural lands, yet tho assessed valuation of Kansas is nearly six times that of Missouri. Practically every town in Kansas owns ils electric light plant, waterworks, and sewer system, while many Missouri towns of from 4000 to 5000 people havo neither paved streets, waterworks, nor electric systems. In .a statement made in 1915 by the Governor of Kansas, reviewing the previous year, ho stated that of tho 105 counties 48' had not sent a prisoner to tho jail, and 87 had not contributed aiiy ( patients to the asylums. More than a dozen counties had not called a jury in ten years to try a criminal ease. Surely this is worth striving for in New Zealand. Be sure you sign the right Petition! Look carefully, or you. may bo induced lo support a proposal askine for nationalisation of the "Drink Traffic with all its attendant evils. The Alliance Monster Petition is I lie ; one that every patriotic citizen nlmuld support. Sign it and no other.—Advt..:-
