• LADIES' TOURNAMENT. The first series of games in tlie New Zealand Tournament was played at Karori Park yesterday,'afternoon. Tlin grounds after the late'rain were on tlio heavy side. Both tho visiting teams— Manawatu and Canterbury—proved too good for the local players. The Manawatu team defeated Wellington A bj 8 goals to nil, and Canterbui7 defeated the Wellington B team by.lo to nil. MANAWATU V. WELLINGTON A. Manawatu from the bully-off carried, play well into Wellington quarters, but the fine defence of the full-backs saved tho position, and a hard drive shifted play. Then Manawatu got the ball at their own twenty-fiye line, forced their way right down the field, and Miss Mullans finished up by finding the net. For a time Wellington held their own, but soon the fino combination of tlw Manawatu began to tell, and before half-time was-called Miss Green (centreforward) added four goals to the visitors' score, tho spell ending in favour of. Manawatu by 5 jroals to aiil. . In the second half Wellington for a lime held their own, and tho spell was-half-way through before Miss Green added anVther goal for Manawatu. Shortly afterwards Miss Whalley finished Up a n\ico forward rush by finding the net. Just before the call of time Miss. Green scored her sixth goal, and the game ended in favour of Manawatu by 8 to nil. The pick of tho players were: For Manawatu, Misses T?-. Perrin, Green, and Sollitt; for Wellington, Misses Israel, Murphy, ar.d MaichbanltE. Messrs. A. W. Mniur.ng and A. Prague!! had .charge of the game.
CANTERBURY V. WELLINGTON B. In the early part of lhia game plaj was very even, the ball_ travelling from end to olid every few minutes. Canterbury, who were playing well together, gradually worked their way over ■Wellington's iv.-enty-five, and Miss Pearce opo::«) tlisir suoro by shooting a fine goal. This was quickly followed by n goal from Miss Ritchie. From this on to the end of the spell Canterlmry h;ul all the'best of the play,-Miss Pearco adding l-iiree more goals. At. half-timu the ,«eore was 5 to nil in favour of Canterbury. * In the second spoil Canterbury proved far 100 . good. Although Wellington made several attractive runs and' got within (striking distance, the defence of the Canterbury backs could not bo broken. Tho visitors added five more goals, the scorers being Hisses Barf- (3), Pearce, and Hitchie. Csuiterlmrv thus won by ten goals to nil. The whole of the Canterbury team played well. The best of the Wellington players were Misses K. Skinner, H. Easterfiold, E. Thompson, and P. M'Miirray. Messrs. K. Kdv/ards and W. Dougall were referees. FIXTURES FOR TO-DAY. Poverty Bay v.
