A sum of £163 was taken at tlie Miisterion Patriotic Shop on Saturday iji aid of the Bed Cross funds. Dr. A. K. Newman, M.l'., is to give a public address in Masterton nest week in support of.the Red Cross appeal. The rainfall recorded in Masterton for the month of August was 3.91 inches, compared with 4.6 inches for tho same month last.year. No bankruptcies were recorded in tho Wairarapa during last month. Thirty-six delegates from Various parts of the Wellington province will attend the provincial conference of the W.0.T.U., to be held in Masterton this week. The Wairarapa Returned Soldiers Association has decided to remain neutral on the liquor question.' The hope'-was expressed at a meeting of the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers' Association that the Government would make full use of the association ■when launching its repatriation scheme. .Twenty-six births, nino deaths, and six. marriages were registered in. Masterton du'nng the month of August.
