FATAL STREET ACCIDENT
GIRL KNOCKED. DOWN BY A PASSING GIG. By Telegraph-l'reae AeßOCiatlon. CHfistchufoh, September 2. A girl named Rita Robsbn, aged 17 years, was knocked:down.on Saturday by a horse and gig driven by William C. M'Kenna, stock agent, Slio was taken to the hospital where she died yesterday. At tlie inquest the evidence snowed that tho horse was trotting at about six miles an hour, and as-the gig passed the girl the step caught her. .throwing her uridenieatl! tho gig. \V. M'Konna, the driver of the gig, a stock agent, said ho pulled the horso out from the girl, and lie was surprised to find that the step of the gig had struck tho girl. M'Kemia added that the group consisted df young, irresponsible persons, and he thought the .accident was no fault of his own. "How was it no fnult of yoursP asked tlie Coroner. ■ "They did- not move." Tim witness said he thought they .would give way a bit and he would miss theili. "It was a miscalculation on, your part," said the Corolior. "The onus is on people to take care." A verdict n'as returned that death was (hie to fracture of the skull, caused by being knocked down, by a gig driven by W. C. M'Kdlillil.
