A canal boat that can go to sea, awl carry wheat and oilier war materials from the Great Lakes district to .Europe without liuioadiiiß, has been built by Captain JL'Dousjal, of Duliith, who originated the "wliiilebnck" type of vessel long U6ed on the Lakes. Standard steel parts can lie used in constructing this boat. It is. a steamer with the engines and main deckhouse concentrated iu the stern. The. entire forward part is a, ''whaleback" surface with wnlertiuht hatches. The upper works, smokestacks, and masts can be quickly removed, to permit tlin boat, lo pass under tho bridges and overhead structures of the recently-completed Now York Stale barge canal. The boat can carry freight from Dnluth to London, via the Lakes; the now canal, and the Atlantic Ocean, without the expense of unloading and reloading.
