Y.M.C.A. BEAT MARIST,

Y.M.C.A. and Marist met at Association Park, Lyall- Bay, on Saturday afternoon in sunny weather. Tlio game had created a great amount of interest in Association football circles, and the spectators, of whom there was a goodly number, were rewarded by a clever exhibition'of Association football.

Y.M.C.A. kicked off, facing a bright sun and light northerly wind. Marist quickly assumed the aggressive, and t play was taken to Y.M.C.A.'s goal area, where a corner was awarded them, but without result. Play then veered towards the centre, where a lot of smart footwork was exhibited by both teams. Jarmy (Y.M.C.A. centrehalf) set his forwards going by passing to Kebster, who took . the leather nicely down field, then passing to Ballard, to, Elford, the latter shooting into goal, but Fitzgerald (Marist's left fullback) cleared. Jarmy again secured, and dribbled through the opposition in fine style, winding up a brilliant solo effort by' beating Hayes with a high dropping shot. Y.M.C.A. 1, Marist 0. Y.M.C.A.'a forwards (who wero well supported by the backs) again returned to tho attack, and Webster was again seen streaking for the goal-mouth, passing to. Elford, who made a nice drive, but Fitzgerald intervened, and play was removed to midfield. Auld (Marist) secured, and sent on to Carruthers, who centred nicely, but Murio (Y.M.C.A.) cleared with a good kick to midfield. Back came Marist with a nice piece of combined ,play, and Carrutliers had bad luck in not scoring, the ball missing by inches. From the kick-out, Y.M.C.A. camo away, and carried the ball right 'down to Marist's citadel, but Auld broke up tho attack. A nice combined movement by Marists's forwards now ensued. H. Marshall secured, passed to Cashman. to Carratilers, back to Cashman. then to Bidgood, who sent in a high' shot, the ball striking the crossbar and rebounding into play, whore Ives relieved with a fine kick to touch. From now on till the whistle sounded for half-time Marist wore continually on the attack, but their efforts wero resultloas.

On resuming it was early apparent that Marist were out to do their utmost to win. For a period of ten minutes they were continually on the attack, but tho defence of Ives and Murie proved too good. At length Y.M's forwards broke away, and Ballard had an opportunity, but /Hayes cleared nicely. Play was now removed to midfield, and interesting line play was witnessed. Reilly (Marist's left half-back) made a nice opening for A. Lowe at this juncture, and the speedy leftwinoyr raised tlj'e hopes of the team's supporters by getting in a good position, but his drive was a little too high. From the kick-out Jarmy took the'ball down field and made a good opening for Baker (Y.M.'s inside man), who boat Hayes with a high dropping shot. Y.M.C.A./2; Marist, 0. Thoroughly roused by this reverse, Marist set up a hot attack on Y.M.'s goal, and woro awarded a corner, which was well cleared by WilsoA. Back came Marist, and Cashman, Bidgood, and A. Lowe woro seen in a pretty piece of footwork, but Bidgood's shot was well taken by Sinclair, and play was once more in midfield. From now on till tho call of time Y.M.C.A. were masters of tie situation, Marist appearing to be completely run to a standstill.
