AUSTRALIA'S "ONE BIG UNION"
ITS INTERNAL ORGANISATION. The internal • organisation of tho "Ono Big Union" of trades societies in Australia provides a. supremo governing body of "The Workers' Industrial Union of Australia," the "grand council" consisting of two delegates from each of the six departments, with president and secretary. These two officers are to bo elected by a plebiscite of all the members. They are to hold office for three years. A provincial council will be formed in each State capital, tipon which will be one delegate from each department. The officers will bo elected for two years by plebiscite of the' State mein•borship. Tim .six departments will also, in each State, have their 6ix councils with a similar provision for tho election of officers. Divisions, consisting of a trade or calling, will have their executives, also called "councils, ' with officers elected for one year. The same principle will be followed in reference to trade sections and mixed sections. Tho principle of tho recall of an officer will be followed, and the rule provides for the appeal of an officer to the membership, or to a court of appeal. Sections, divisions, departments, or councils are ■prohibited from taking any action involving any portion of the union without having consulted the supreme governing body, and the executives mentioned must not take action involving members without consulting them. The contribution is fixed at £1 per year for men and 1(R per year for women, until t.hpy receive "equal payment for equal work" with men. Apprentices, and youths and girls under IS. will also pay 10s.
