RETURNED SOLDIERS
NEW ZEALAND EXECUTIVE MEETS. The executive of the Now Zealand Roturned Soldiers' Association met in Wellington on Saturday, the president;,. Mr. C. W. Batten, occupying tho chair. The enemy alien (question was considered at'length, and it was decided to make strong representations to tno Minister of Defence, urging that conscripted men for whom exemption >y.-.a claimed on the ground of enemy sympathies should be either interned immediately or enrolled for work of a national character. The internal organisation of the association was discussed, and it was decided to call separate conferences of local secretaries m the North and South Islands at an early date to consider tlie position further. Respecting the returned soldiers' settlement at Kaiwaka, llawkc's Bay, a delegate from the settlement attended the" meeting,, and stressed various difficulties which faced some of tho settlers. . ' ,
The executive resolved to bring the matter before the notice of the Minister of Lands on his return to Wellington. . It was decided that the resolution of the recent conference at Auckland with reference to retrospective allowances should lio acted upon at once, in view of tho forthcoming session of Parliament. In connection with this -matter it was also decided to make a full statement of the association's case to tho general public.
