DISTRIBUTION OF PHIZES.. ' Tho united Sunday School scholar!! assembled in St. John's Schoolroom, Dixon 'Street, last evening, for the dis- / tributioii of -pwzes and certificates in connection with the recent Sunday School examination. Mr. Arthur IToby, tho president-of the Union, was in the chair, and in opening the proceedings apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mrs.. Atkinson and Miss Kirk; He asked the scholars to pass a vote of thanks by acclamation to the examiners. Mrs. Gill, Mrs. Atkinson, Miss Gill, and Ml- J. 13. Hopkirk, and this was done. BeferriiiE to tho work of the Sundav School Union he said that there- had not boon as many candidates this year as compared with last year, tho number being 527 against 582. Tho number of prizes this year was IG9, against 23fi'last vear, 176 second-class certificates, against 177 last year. MO thirdclass oortificatos against 1.10 last vear. The. number that failed this vear was 42, as compared with 30 in 1917. Continuing, Mr. Hoby said that when ho sat down to sign tho certificates bethought he had plenty of work to do, but when be reflected ho realised that tho secretary of tho union, Mr. H.-J. ', Thompson, had a great deal more to i dp, and he asked the scholars to civo him a vote of thanks. After a recitation, given very creditably by Miss Vera Dormer, tho distribution of the prizes was commenced. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. P, Luke) congratulated tho Sunday School. Union and the organisation it had in tho city. Ko ono could estimate tho good work that had been done by the union. After referring to tho founder ■ of Sunday Schools, Mr. Luke said that most of the boys who were lighting at the front in tho New Zealand Division bad passed through the Sunday Schools of tho Dominion. Ho valued tho Sunday School movement in Wellington, and ho was always.pleased to bo present at a juvenile function, especially at such a gathering as tho ono lie was attending then. The prizes and certificates wore --ben presented, songs and recitations, and several livmns being interspersed. ']V nanics of the prize-winners have al r<wly been published.
