NEW ZEALAND INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANTS
ANNUAL MEETING. Tim twenty-fifth annual general meet; in?; of the Institute of Accountants 01 New Zealand was held yesterday, Mr. C. P. Powles, president, in the chair. The- annual report and balance-sheet were adopted on tho motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. H. C. Towsley, of Auckland. Members of the council were elected as follow :-Messrs. H. D. Vickery (Wellington), C. G. Chambers (Auckland), J. Morrison (Christchurch), James Brown (Dunedin), W. M'Culloch (Napier). Mr. R. R. Coppock was elected auditor. At a subsequent meeting of the council Mr. H. D. Vickery was elected president and Mr. J. Morrison vice-prosident. The annual report stated that the number of members on the register at tho end of the year was 381, and consisted of 213 fellows and 168 associates. Five ifellows and ono associate have died during tho year,'two of them in tho defence of their countryMr. J. W. Crichton and H. 0. F. Marsden (Fellows). Mr. Marsden (Wellington) was one of the most brilliant of the younger members, and at time of enlisting was secretary to tho Westport Stockton Coal Co. Mr. Crichton was accountant for the firm of William Wood and Co., Christchurch; both were highly respected for their ability and integrity. Tho early loss of men like these, in the heyday of their careers, is, says the report, one cf the worst features of this dreadful war. Wo sympathise with their families and we honour their memory. The three other Fellows were Mr. G. J. Parker (Te Aroha), Mr. C. B. Robertson (Wellington), and Mr. W. J. Tabuteau (Napier), all old members of tho institute; Messrs. Parker and Tabuteau tang foundation members. The statemunt of accounts showed that at the uid of tho financial year tho institute bad £350 invested on first mortgage of freehold property, £300 on fixed deposit, and £200 in war certificates. The excess of income over ordinary expenditure Ifor the year was £111 3s. Bd., but on account of the grant of £50 to the New Zealand Society of Accountants towards the subsidy to the university colleges, this is reduced to £61 3s. 9d. Tho accumulated funds J'ow stand ab £834 10s. Gel. Tho outstanding subscriptions owed by three members only amount to £1 lis. fid.; £3(J 19s. Gd. has been remitted on account of members on active cervico for subscriptions duo for the year.
