AUSTRIANS RECONQUER BERAT. Washington, August 28. General March (Chief of Staff) confirms the retreat of the Italians in Albania. The Aust'irians have reconquered Berat.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. NEW LINE TAKEN UP BY THE ALLIES. ' (Rec. August 30, 8 10 p.m.) London, August 28. The Austrians in the Balkans commenced an offensive on August 22, and succeeded in capturing Berat. The Italians have withdrawn to the Malakastra Cafaglava-Cafaglumaka line. The French left wing has withdrawn in conformity with the movement. The Italians' line now rims five miles south of Berat. The Malakastra ridge is important, because it commands the harbour of Valoiia. It is essential that the Italians should retain the position. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
