RED RIBBON FAIR
I'OKaSAI/VATION AKMY I'UOTS. " A "Kcd 'Ribbon Fair," in aid of tile Salvation Army funds,-was ..oponed in tlio Sulv«U<m Army Citadel"yesterday bv till; Mayor (Mr. J. I'. Luke, C.M.G , M.l\). 'There was a large gathering of workers and interested - friends, and tlm City Band, under the direotion of Captain Goffin, contributed _ a varied pro»rammo of music. The interior of the' Citadel had been decorated with streamers and drapery of red and white, the effect being very bright and pretty, the stalls also haying. been decorated with the same effective colcurs, and with brandies and sprays of fcliago and artificial flowers. The display of goods for sale was varied and attractive, comprising needlework of all kinds, novelties, draperies, woodwork, produce, jams, and pickles, etc. Somo of the needlework had been made at tlio Army Rescue Homeland so excellent was it that it very qiiicldy secured ready ' buyers. Tho pickles and jams were also most attraotivolookiiig, and, like the contents of the ether stalls, were ill keen demand, lirief specchos were made, and tlie Mayor, in opening the fair, wished its promoters all possible success. In charge of the different stalls were the. following:—The Home's Stall (drapery) : Major Blinco and helpers; sweets: Mrs. Trinder; staff officers' stall (needlework, clothing, etc.): Mrs. Major Newbold in charge; jams and pickles: Mrs. Colonel Bray and Miss Whitfield; corps stall (needlework, clothing, etc.): Mrs. Commandant Armstrong, Sirs. Queree, and helpers; •young people's stall: Mrs. Dert Greenfield, Miss Attwood, Miss Stella Cray; flowers: Miss Elliott and Miss Ratclilfe; tearoom: Mrs. Hatcliife and Mrs. Noville. There was also a cold drinks :.t:ill„ which secured attention from tho younger, members of the, gathering. This afternoon : the fair will bo opened at half-past two by the Mayoress-(Mrs. J P. Luke), and in the evening Commissioner and Mrs. Hodder will perform the formal ceremony, tho City Songsters, under Major College, contributing an attractive programme of music. On Kriday evening the Rev. J. Dawson will open tho fair. Commandant A. Armstrong, C.0., carried out-the secretarial duties, in connection with the enterprise.
