INCIDENTS OF THE BATTLE
HOW A PRUSSIAN DIVISION WAS CUT UP
STALKING A FIELD GUN
London, August 27. Mr. Percival Phillips writes: ''A Prussian division which advanced from Reugnatro in the direction of Kuvrcuil was spotted by our airmen,' and was mercilessly cut up, and only a remnant reached Favreuil, where it fell victims to the North Country troops, mostly by bayonet work. Many German dead lay in the village. We then pushed towards Beugnatre, where the British are reported to bo on tho outskirts.
"The Australians captured Cappy and Suzanne in tho night-time. Prisoners declare that they had expected to be left in peace. Ono principal obstaclo was » solitary field gun, which was fired industriously until the Australians, tiring of it, stalked it and disposed of the crew, and then the mop-pers-up chased the machine-gunners through tho cellars, and tho place was cleared. Tho resistance at Suzanne was slight, and most ot the garrison were taken prisoner."-~Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
A CAPTURED 15-INCH MONSTER London, August 27. Mr. Gordon Gilmour writes: "Tho fifteen-inch gun which is among the Australians' spoils is a. costly weapon, in an immense steel emplacement on a top of concrete, and with its own elec-tric-power plant in the vicinity. But the Barrel of the giui is cracked from end to end, apparently by a premature' burst, and it has not been used for some time."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
