FELT HATTERS' DISPUTE
UNUSUAL POSITION DISCLOSED. By Telegraph—l'ress Association. Duriedin, August 27. 'An unusual position was disclosed when the felt hatters' dispute came before the Conciliation Council to-day. The employers put in a note stating that tlioy did not agree tc any of the olaims, as they were of opinion that the pinion was not a bona fide unioi. and, representative of the trade, and that the union must establish its bona fides before the Arbitration Court. If tho Court did decide that the union was bona' fide, the employers would meet its representatives in conference. Mr. Hagger, the Commissioner, thought the employers should give a sound reason for the attitude adopted, but the employers' representative sajjl that was not tile proper plaoo to make a statement. .1 inally, it was decided to refer the whole dispute to the court. The Commissioner stated that he would attach im explanation informing the Court tlmt the employers mentioned that they had some legal point, that they refused to divulge it, and refused to discuss tho demands of tho union.
