"ANCONIA" SHEEP DIP

CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES.

Allegedly obtaining money by false pretences in connection with the sale of "Anconin" sheep dip, which was alleged to ho ineffective, was tho basis of six charges preferred against John C. Harrison in tho Police Court yesterday. The first charge was that at Palmerston North on February 20, 1918, with intent to defraud, he obtained from N. 11. S. Sinclair XIOS by falsely representing that Anconin, sheep dip was an effective dip, and by representing he was one of the firm of' John Harrison and Sons, of London, New York, and Buenos Aires, whereas he was not one of the firm. Other charges involved the following amounts:—.£2l 12s. from E. J. Taylor, To Awamutti; m. 12s. from W. S. Onto, Tn luiiti; .EGI 10s. from Anderson and Broad, Mnrton; JCG4 IGs. from G. Bartholomew, PeHding; -CGI lCs. from f. U. Jackson. New Plymouth. Accused loft Auckland on March 5 and was arrested in Canada and brought, back to Auckland on July 28. Tho case was continued to-day, when Alfred James Parker. Government Analyst, Auckland, said he was given seven packets of Anconia dip to analyse. The samples varied in colour, some being brown and others yellow. The composition of the yellow grouo was sulphur, carbonate of soda, and chloride of soda. Tho composition of the brown was sulnlmr, carbonate of soda. salt, ground limestone, and a trace of organic matter. As a sheen dip used in accordance with the directions on the pockety witness placet! no value on the preparation. As a disinfectant its value was so slifht (lint it misrht almost bo discounted. He estimated the cost price of the materia! at about ficl. per packet. He would say it would be criminal to sell or trivo away stuff for most of the purposes sot out in tlm pamphlet (produced).
