EXPENDITURE OP ,£liooo AUTHORISED. At yesterday's meeting the chairman and treasurer of tho AVellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board were authorised to raise a loan of ,£OOOO with which to erect a now ward over Ward 4, in order to provide accommodation for tlm X-ray department. Tho chairman explained that tho old idea, of utilising the present offico quarters for the X-ray purposes had noi met with the Minister's approval, but tho proposal to build another ward on top of Ward L niako Ward .1 Ward I. and leave the former available for X-ray work met with tbeyfull approval of tho Minister and Dr. Frengley. The Rev. Dr. Elliott said that tho usual moaning of "ward" was a, largo room with a number of beds in it. Vfas the now place to be one where patients for cancer, etc., would be treated? Dr. Barclay said that there would bo no beds in 'it—it would 6imply bo an X-ray pavilion a. series of rooms where patients would be given electrical and other treatment, as well as X-ray treatment. He. did not think there would ho a foot too much space. All the world over mechanical treatment had been increasing of recent years, and would increase still further in future, so it was wise .to make provision for it. The secretary was instructed to adviso tho architects,' Clcre and Williams, to go ahead with, tho plans, specifications, and estimated cost- of the new building.
