"WORK OR FIGHT"

LABOUR PROTESTS AGAINST NEW AMERICAN MAN-POWER BILL. (Eec. August 21, 5.5 p.m.) . Washington, August 20. The American Federation of Labour has protestol to the Military Committee of the House against the provision in tho Man-power Bill that all must either work or fight. Objection is taken to tho withdrawal of tho deferred classification accorded to men under tho Bill when absent from work. This, it is asserted, amounts to tho conscription of labour. It is likely that tho "work or fight" amondment will bo abandoned—Aus,N.Z. Cablo Assn.
