"DADDY LONG LEGS"
CLOSE OF THK MACDOKELL SEASON. "Daddy Long I/figs," a comedy (adapted from the novclt bv Jean Webster and I-Iciu'v Miller. 'Cas't.Tervis Pendleton Cliarles Waldron Jameß H/Bride. Since that time Hiss Kathlene MncDonoll has played important roles in many chatming plays (particularly in Australia), but it is a ((tiestion as to whether her temperament was so completely suited as in the role of Judy Abbott, the wait' of the John drier Home, tor Orphans, who finds her affinity in n curiously interesting manner in her dear benefactor, "Daddy Long Legs," otherwise Jervi* Pendleton. The performance of Miss Kathleno MaeDonell as Judy is the human parallel of the geysers of Whakarewarawa. -which are usually steaming » little, but have intervals of 'ominous quiet, followed by erratic bursts of humour and unmeasured violence. Judy Abbott wad a fine character for Jean Webster and her dramtic mentor, Henry Miller, to conceive, and in the hands of Miss MacDonell it is one of those vitel character studies which burn au indelible impression on the memory. Mr. Charles Waldron. was as grave and charming a sjentlonian as ever as Jervis Pendleton. Jimmy M'Brido has Mr. Kenneth Brampton as a successor to Mr. Louis Kimhell; Miss Emma Temple is again tho lovable, tactful Miss Pritehard, and Miss Minnie Engler takes tho place of Miss Maggiu Moore as Mrs. Seroplc, Good character bits we supplied by Mr, Charles Brown as Cyrus Wykoff, the ignorant and loud; Mr. J. P. Wilson as Abner Parsons; Mr. Frank Hareonrt as John Codman, and Mr. Prank Hatherley as Griggs. Miss Boryl Bryant was Mrs. Pendleton, and Miss Clarice Hardwicke was nicely suited as Sailie M'Bvide. A special word of commendation is due to Mies Mabel Maltby (of Wellington), who undertook the role of Mrs. Lippot (the very severo matron of the John Grieg Home) at short notice, and played it to the manner born. : The comedv was received with eager joy by a crowded audience, who were most liberal with their applause at Hie conclusion of the performance, and, be it ! said with regret, the season. Such plays < as tho Williamson Company have given us during the last ten days, and such i ablo nu'yers, are all too rare in these ~ times,
