Judd, Iho principal witness, produced Scully's allowed statements, tlio contents of which tho Court directed to 1)0 withheld from publication for tho present. South Wales Assembly, to obtain a new trial for certain I.AV.W. prisoners and the rejection . f a motion to appoint a Royal Commission culminated in sensational albgations." Mr. Brooktiold stilted that neiv evidence had como to light based on a. written statement by Scullj-, a Crown witness, in which, ho alleged that the Government had promised him .KOOfl. to sccuro evidence to convict the I.W.W. men. Two coiistmbles asked Scully to placo cotton ■wasto in the pockets of one of the I.W.W. members. The police prepared the evidence, which was har.led (o Scully, and which lie was told to learn. The Government actually paid ueiilly .£3OO. Mr. Broojvfield further alleged that tho easo was'a frame-up on tho part of tho' police. One material witness died under mysterious circumstances, which wero' nover cleared up. If Seilly left, there was no other witness to prove the easo mgain/?t tho police. A sensational uproar ensued when it transpired that Swii'y left the .country last month. Arrangements were subsequently made for the return , of Scully.]
