TOTANEKAI FOB OHATHAMS. The Governmout steamor Tutanikei left, Wellington on Saturday morning for tho Chatham Islands to pick up tho members of tho crew of tho wrecked steamer Hiinitangi. Tho vessel, -which is in command of Commander Hooper, JI.N.K., of tho Amokura, will > return direct to Wellington, and is expected to arrive about tho end of tho week. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. W. Paul, chief oflicer of a, Union Company's steamer, will lea.vo tho vessel at Wellington to-day to 20 on holiday leave. Mr. Q. A. Herbert, second ofl'cor of the vessel, will fill the poeition ae chief officer temporarily, ajid Mr. 0. Sharp will join tho ehip as second officer. Private advices received in Sydney state that two sons of tho late Captain P. Holm have been doing good work in tho North Sea. One holds the rank of engineer commander, and at laet report, waa in hospital; and the other, Commander M. Holm, has charge of. a British patrol boat of 2000 tons.
Oaptain D. Banning has signed off tho Schooner Gisborne's articles at Dunedin. He arrived in Wellington yesterday to take command of the Hula,-which is about to ho recommiesioned for the Wellington-Wa-nganui-New Plymouth trade.

The Diadem, a motor trawler whioh will be ketch rigged, wae launched at Lyttalton on Thursday by her builders, Messrs. Miller Bros., and was taken to tho railway crane in order to have her enpino installed. The vessel has a length of 45ft. over all, 16ft. beat, and sft. moulded depth. Her ongine ie a 25-h.p. semi-Diesel Anderson, crudo oil, and is tho first enirine of its kind to be' built in Lyttelton by tho firm of Anderson's, Ltd. The tcsecl was designed by tho builders. It is hoped to have her ready for a trial run in about U'n days' ti™. It Is oxiiected that her engines will develop , a speed of nino knots.
