Eng.-Lieutenant 0. C. D. Lundius, son of Mr. H. Lundius, of the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, has been in the Royal Indian Marine for the past dvo years, and is now homo ■for one or two weeks' leave from (ho Mediterranean (says an English correspondent). Mr. Lundius was formerly in the NX Shipping Company's Orari, which carried troops at the beginning of the war, and his first commission in the R.T.M. was in the Kurmark, formerly a Hamburg-Amorika liner.
Among the passengers by the Maori from Lyttelton on Saturday night wero Drs. Paget and Bevcmlgo.
At the. end of this month, Mr. T. M. Cullen, Collector of Customs at Dunedin, will retire after -10 years of civil service. In 1878, Mr. Cullen entered tho Postal Department as a cadet at Onehnnga. The following year, he entered the Postal Denartment at Auckland. In 1899, Mr. Cnllen was appointed Collector of Customs at Oamarti. In 1907 he was moved to Nelson as Collector, and in 1912 was promoted to Dunedin.
Mr. W. Ranger, manager of tho Gis. borne branch of Messrs Booth, Mncftonald ami Co., has been transferred to the Nnw Plymouth brunch. Mr. G. Scott, of Auckland, will succeed Mr. Ranger at Gisborno.
Mr. M. C. Harriott. Chief Accountant of tho Public Trust Office, underwent an operation in n Dunedin private hospital a few days ago, and is reported to be tnnkincr gwfl progress towards recovery.
Mr. A. Wylie, electrical engineer to the Auckland City Council, is visiting Christchurch to inquire into tho system of supplying and distributing electrical current in that city.
Mr. William K. Wade, of Eangirbi Waikato, has an. experience, unique amongst his tribesmen, and probably amongst' the Maori race altogether. Before, the war lie was at sea in the uarquo Peru, in which he had made at least pnu voyage to England. Ho enlisted with the Main Body in Now Zealand, went to Gallipoli, and was wounded at Khoriedenlron Ridge. ■ Returning to New Zealand he was discharged owing to the injury to his arm. Shortly afterwards Mr. Wade joined the S.S. and A. Company's steamer Rarunga before- the mast, and' went to England with her on her maiden voyage, Signing off in London, lie joined'the Holt liner. Cyclops, and made a voyngc to New York and brick. Ho then entered the King Edward VIT. Navigation School in East London to study for his ticket, but being nnxioua x&- rejoin his comrades he enlisted again in the Pioneers in England in .Tulylast year. After nerving with the Maoris at the front: until June, he wiw transferred to the Royal Navy, and joins H.M.fi. Snnhill, M.F.A., as junior officer. Hβ will probably sit for his ticket in a few .months.
