A CANDID SWISS NEWSPAPER
WARNED TO DESTST FROM ANTIHUN COMMENT. The "GazeUo" of Lausanne, Switzerland, was again warned recently by the Swiss federal Chancellory in connection with its savage criticism of the Germans incorporated in its .review of former Ambassador Gerard's book, "My Four Years in Germany." Tho newspaper was notified that another article of the sort, characterised as threatening to compromise Swiss relations with Germany, would be more severely punished. The warning cites the following passages in the introduction to Hie review as objectionable:— "One sees in the author the inemoire of an absolutely honest man required to live four years among knaves aud other malefactors. "Hut Germany hns always violated divine right and human laws. Its lies, its inexcusable savageries, and the relentlessness with which it has destroyed the most beautiful monuments of the earth, nnd with which it has burned precious libraries and museum's, have dishonoured if; for ever. The world must destroy it or Hm> world is lost." The "Gazette" received n similar warning on June 7, IUIS.
