WOOL COMMANDEER
/ 'APPROVED BY CANTERBURY SHEEP OWNEBS. ■ By Telegraph-Press Association. ' ' Christchurch, August 15. At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Sheep Owners' Union to-day the . chairman, Mr. W. W. M'Rao, sa(cl that m view of/the large accumulations of unshipped produce and the shortage of . shipping it was in the interests of sheep owners to accept the suggestion of the Bon. D. Outline, Minister of Lands,' that the Imperial Government commandeer of wool should extend for at least one year after the end of the War. In xegard to the disposal of wool profits tMr. E. Newman, M.P., had submitted a proposal that profits accruing to'sheep owners from tho resale of Now Zealand wool during tho currency of the commandeer, should be handed to dependents of thomeri of the British Navy and mercantile marine, killed or injured iduring the war. Mr. Newman's patriotic suggestion had the approval of sheep farmers generally, but tho' question had been raised as to whether it would not ne better to defer pnssing a resolution on that matter until more definite information was received as to what surplus profit, if any, accrued from the wool in .question.
/ The meeting decided to approve the proposal that the Imperial Government's commandeer of .New Zealand wool shouldi fextend tor one year after Juno 30, following the declaration of peace, and to recommend that 'the meat contract by the Imperial Government bo extended In tne.6ame way.
