NOTES AND COMMENTS

fBY GIiENCOK.I

Tho prospects for another good day's racing at Kiccarton aro bright. Most of tlie bost horscß that snorted silk on Thursday will again bo seen out, and the weather jh perfect. Proceedings will open at 11.30 a.m. with the Aylesbury Steeplechase, two miles mill .1 half. Boro appeared to bo in a winning position on Thursday when ho fell, and H nlay bo a case of stand tup to win tomorrow. Gaokwar is ud a- stone, which should stop him. The Kcdcliffs Handicap, seven furlongs, is rather a. puzzle, but Warform ran so well on the lirst day that ho may bo favourite, whihj of tho others it, may be useful to rcmomber that Turpenue was noticed finishing woll on the. first day. Tho Auckland horse, Cardrona, may command most respect in the August Handicap, in which Bedford is an unlikely starter. Form Un will bo well supported over this shorter distance, but he seems to have plenty of weight. Comment, is up 131b., which should be enough to stop her. IVaimai is a doubtful starter in the Beaufort Steeplechase, but St. Elmn will again contest tho race, and as ho has done well in the interim the National winner may again be handy at the finish. Coalition and Yellow and Black, who fell on tho first day, aro both expected to do a lot bettor to-day. Arlington, with lOsi. 131b., seems to bo out of hia class, and it is doubtful if ho could win with the minimum. Wishful, who was out oliasing Gang Awa in the National Hurdles, may be tho favourito in the Sproydon Hurdles, but Hvlans will.bo bettor for his race on tho lirst day, and T'ornea may also bo in the front rank at tho finish. Kauri King is up 181b. in tho Sydenham Hurdles,' which should bo tho means of stopping the National winner, and both flluetamis and Gang Awa should account for him. Gang Awa's ridor lost both irons at tho start of the National Hurdles, and at tho first fence his ridor sustained a painful injury, which prevented him from doing his mount .justice. ■ Fisher run badly in the. National Hurdles, and it Is understood he has been sold to a Wellington owner, who will keep him in tlie hnck class. Thero is a li;r field in tho Wooiston Hack Handicap, but Ardmoro. should bo suited by the shorter distance, and Moorabbe will also do a lot bettor, as prior to Thursday's race he had done practically nothing on the track. Jingo will alo" to a better horse for his outing on the first day. Bedford will command a lot of attention from backers in the Islington Handicap, but John Barleycorn and Adjutant also' may show un, while a »ood outsider is Thaddeus, who was one of the unlucky ones in the Winter Oup. Tho Dunedin horso is always bettor for a race, and he .can get tho distance well. Hymestra and Nanna have been doing a good deal of road work at Opaki lately. Both aro fresh and well, and will soon bo sent along in view of coming engagements. Torchy is stiid to bj still very lame, and unlikely to bo seen under silk for a good while yet. Returning from tho Invercnririll course on Saturday morning, Clynelish. collided with a motor-car and had a leg broken, necessitating his destruction. Ha was in TI. G. Cokor's Rtable at tho time of hisdeath, and promised, to develop into a useful stayer durirg tho ensuing season. As Southland stables are weak in distance horses this season. Clyimllnb. would probably have become a stake-winner Main.
