ON THE ITALIAN FRONT
ARTILLERY ATTACK NEAR SWISS BORDER ALPINE TROOPS ADVANCING New York, August 15. The United Press Agency at Washington, states that dispatches from Italian General Headquarters to the Military Attache at the Italian Embassy, says that the Italians opened an intense artillery attack on a twenty-five mile front in the mountain zono near the Swiss border, where there has been practically no fighting since the beginning of the war. Military circles consider this is (he starting of an Italian offensive, and point out that the Austro-Germans recently concentrated infantry and artillery in tho Trentino region. A successful Italian offensive would endanger the enemy's , Trentino positions. It is further ropnited that .Alpine troops have captured Monte Stello, and are advancing up Monte Albiolo.-Ans.-N.Z.
