PHYSICAL TRAINING

ÜBUT.-COL. SLEEMAN'S SCHEME. r Tlio proposal made by lAeut.-Col. Siceman, Director of Military Training, for the institution of the army system of. physical instruction in the territorial and-Sen-ior cadets, was further discussed at a meeting of the Wellington Officers' Institute last night. ~ Colonel Campbell, who presided, eaid that the committee appointed at a previous meeting had consulted with Captain Brooks, officer in charge of the phy.sical training system at Trentham. Captain Brooks had suggested that a group of officers and n.c.o.'s should get permission to take a two weeks course in Trentham camp. They would be -qualified then to instruct classes in their own units. The alternative was to hold nighfelasses in Wellington. The meeting had felt that oven if only a few men could go to tho camp for acourso of instruction that arrangement would trivo the best results. The question was how many officers and n.c.o.'s could give a fortnight to the work. A course of induction in the city would require to bo over a period of ■ probably thrpo months, when the instructors were availlie the next step would be to arrange the classes. The territorials and the cadets would ho kept separate for this Dunne said he, ™dcretood there might be some difficulty abou, getting the permission of headquarters to hoW a class in Trentham camp. The Zn who received the jwtmfaim ™Jd have to bo prepared to instruct the r own units, and. if necessary,.other ] units, llm success of the scheme seemed to depend upon the training of instructors being (liven in camp. Training by means of a weekly class ii» the city would not give nearly such good results. ' , \fter some further discussion the meeting decided to approach headquarters OB tho subject.
