THOSE TERRITORIAL OFFICERS
COMMISSIONS UKSTOEKD TO TEEM, After all the argument and the little . litigation about the statue of the territorial officers who were summoned to eainnunder circumstances which are iulljr understood now, the Defence authorities hnve arranged to give back their commissions to most of them, and (hey will go forward to the front as officers Of relnforcemejits with the rank of second lieutenant. Previously.the practice was to send men back from the front ior promotion, and to allow them.to go lorward from New Zealand again with commissioned rank, but for reasons which were strong and urgent it was not deemed advisable to release experienced men from the front, and promotions in the field hud in consequence to be reduced. For this reason the plethora of officers which these territorials would otherwise have created, will not exfet and nlaces \ will be found for them in Hie drafts. They will not keep their original rank— • which they had contended foi>-bttt will go away as second lieutenants.
