The horses engaged in tho Winter Cup are too numerous for detailed references to their form to be made, but some generalities are appended. Tho top-weight, Yolo (lUt. 51b.), won a lot of stake-money last season. After doing well in the Taranaki district, he won the Connolly and tho Empire .Handicaps at Wanganui, and llio Unfa llandi cap at. Otaki. At Otaki he conceded a good doal of weight to a fair field. Form tfp (list. 21b.), who won tho last Stewards' Handicap, had been off tho winninu lift for a considerable time, until tho recent Trentham meeting, when lie easily defeated a weak field in tho sii-furlong event on the second day. John Barleycorn's UOst. £lb.) most recent performance was a second at Timaru—his first appcarunco in public for some time. ]!. Hatch will have the mounton him. Lady Louisa- (lOst. 21b.) ran prominently at Wanganui and Otaki. and on being taken to Ilawke'B Bay won tho chief Hat event on each day. Bedford (9st. 131b.). Varnish (9st, 91b.), an dAscalaphus (9at. 91b.) "have not done niuoh in public for fioino littlo time. All Over (9st. 91b.) han won a number of races this aeason, and on Ills last appearance ho beat Welcome Nugeet in a Bracelet evont. Multiplication (9Bt. 81b.) won the big six-furlong event in fast time at Bunting's Wellington Cup mcetins, but has been under a otood since. King Star (9st. 81b.) won tho last Winter Gup, aim gavo a sen«utional return. This year he will bo ridden by W. Bell, who got him homo in front of a hot favourite in Parisian Diamond last year. Thaddcus (Pat. Bib.) won races over * mile and a quarter in the autumn. Sir Agnes (9st. 61b.) ran third in the Varlfamentary .Handicap at Trcntham last month, and on the second day of the meeting won the mile event. Cardrona Oat. 51h.) has won under his weights over sprint coursos in the Auckland province. Hydras (9st. lib.), who is to be ridden by H. Gray, has run prominently on several recent occasions, and won at Ilawko'H Bay. Ibex I9st. 31b.), who will be ridden by Koy Heed, has reputation but not (performances. MnjestikoiT (?st. 31b.) won several races la.Bt season, and in tho chief event at Ashburton defeated Adjutant. Clamecook (9at. 31b.) is tho sole Clifford representative for the race, Adjutant and Brambletye having been withdrawn. Sardinia (Sat. 21b.) ham been lilting places fairly regularly, and ran second at Trentham Multiline (9st. lib.) ran Jnto places Inst season, and also got on tho winning list. Flcetham (9st.). an importation from Knirland, won tlin lait event of the recent Wellington meeting. Kiltesß t96t.) won races during the season and was third in the milo at Trcntham. Whiro (9st.) has not a great deal to his credit hi the way of performances.
